Picture this: You’re waiting to meet a client for brunch at a beautiful outdoor restaurant. It’s hot outside, but you don’t notice the stagnant winds until you’re seated. You start to feel as if your beautiful full coverage makeup is melting off so you begin fanning yourself with your menu. Hold it right there.
You don’t need to break a sweat about melting makeup. Here are some makeup tips for Summer to help keep your face in place.
1. Sweat proof your makeup
Prep your face with a vitamin enriching mist (I like Mac’s Fix+) and follow up with an oil control moisturizer (I like Mac’s Oil Control Lotion). By prepping the skin with a mist, you’re helping your moisturizer melt into your skin instead of just sitting on it like a mask. Doing this step will prevent your makeup from looking cakey, especially when you start to sweat.
2. Get matte
After doing tip #1, prep your skin for makeup with a mattifying primer. Using a mattifying primer will prevent extra shine from sweat from seeping through your makeup.
3. Less is more
It’s summertime! There is no need for heavy makeup. Enhance your natural beauty by wearing less products. Opt in for a BB Cream or light coverage foundation (I like Mac’s face and body airbrush foundation – it’s waterproof and your sweat will literally bead up, making it easy to dab away) and set it with a colored powder (I like Mac’s Select Sheer Pressed Powder). Lightly fill in your brows, define the crease of your eyes with a warm tone eyeshadow (like Mac’s Brown Script or Taupe from the Lorac Pro Palette), and lightly bronze or contour your face.
4. Make it pop
Finish off tip #3 with a bright red/coral/fuschia/summery lip color.
5. Set it and forget it
To prevent makeup from looking cakey, lightly spritz a finishing spray to set and melt all of the products together. This will also increase the longevity of your hard work (I like Mac’s Fix+, you might like Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray).
